How a free-fall metal detector works
Product drops through a vertical pipe or aperture. If a metal particle passes through, a fast reject, such as a flap or diverter, removes the contaminated portion from the stream.
It is typically fitted above a packing machine or at the end of a mixing or filling stage, which makes it the usual choice for loose product that never sits on a belt.

What to check before you buy
Dry or damp, fine powder or coarse granules. Moisture and salt affect sensitivity.
Matched to your chute or packing machine inlet.
Kilograms per hour, so the reject can react in time.
A flap or diverter that removes only the contaminated portion.
Space available above the packing machine.

Free-fall metal detectors: common questions
How much does a free-fall metal detector cost in Sri Lanka?
Standard free-fall metal detectors cost LKR 1,500,000 to 4,500,000. The price does not include VAT, and the final price depends on the aperture size, throughput, reject mechanism and food-grade build your line needs. PBS quotes each project after checking your product and replies within 24 hours.
Free-fall or conveyor metal detector?
Use a free-fall detector for loose, free-flowing product that drops through a chute. Use a conveyor detector for packs and products carried on a belt.
Can it be fitted above a packing machine?
Often yes, if there is enough height for the detector and the reject. Send the machine model and the space available and we will confirm.
Can it find stainless steel?
Yes, but stainless steel is generally harder to detect than other metals, especially in damp or salty product. Sensitivity is confirmed with test pieces on your own product.
What warranty do free-fall metal detectors have?
All PBS products carry a one-year manufacturer warranty, and PBS provides technical support afterwards.
